End of Year

Thursday will be our last day together in 4th grade!  I am so proud of all of my students and each one of them has a special place in my heart. This year’s students put effort into learning and it has paid off. They are prepared for 5th grade and I wish them well!

THURSDAY IS A HALF DAY!!!

There will be no after school care and dismissal is at 11:30.  Students may be picked up in the classroom beginning at 11:00.

STRIKE UPDATE

Hello LPA Lakeside community. I want to thank you for your patience as we address the current circumstances in the political arena and education in Arizona. We plan to have the school open from 8:00-3:30. There will be NO breakfast, NO before school, and NO after school, as several of our teachers will be participating in the RedForEd movement in PHX. This movement is an effort to allocate more funding to public education in Arizona. We have been able to secure enough support staff to safely open the school on Thursday; I am pleased that we were able to avoid a full school closure on this day. I do understand that many of you will keep your children home, and they will be marked as excused for this day. This will also ensure that we do not need to extend school beyond May 24th, our original last day of school. This plan will be extended for the duration of the teacher strike. We will notify students, staff, and families if there are any further changes to this plan.

Letter From District Office

Friday, April 20, 2018
To All Parents of Arizona Charter Schools Students,

As you may be aware, Arizona teachers are considering potential action to support the Red for Ed movement. These actions could include a walkout that could impact our school days. It is our hope that Arizona Charter Schools would know these date(s) in advance, but we are preparing for all possible scenarios. Rest assured that, rst and foremost, plans will be developed with student well-being and safety as our continued top priority.

Red for Ed is happening in an effort to obtain more overall funding for schools. (Teacher pay is a small part of the movement.) We are seeing increasing discussion of these issues and, of course, we support conversation. However, if a strike is planned, ACS will make every effort to avoid closing schools. Also, be aware that we are currently working on plans to keep our schools open in the event of work stoppage.

As a charter school, we cannot use our resources to in uence elections or political discussion. We also cannot hand out literature to students that advocates for or against legislation. In addition, let me emphasize that we are very cognizant about acting in a way that would discourage employees from having, discussing, and expressing their opinions about Red for Ed, or from taking concerted action in support of their views. However, if we have too few staff members to safely hold school, we may be forced to close schools for that day. Please consider that you may want to arrange alternative daycare plans in the event that schools are forced to close. .

If we are unable to hold school, parents and guardians will receive a phone call and/or email (if provided to the school) with school closure information. This information will also be shared on the district website as well as our individual charter school sites and also updated to you continuously on social media (Facebook and Twitter ). Be assured that we will do everything we can to provide you with as much information as is currently possible

I feel that we are a community of staff who are here because they love teaching and love our students. And ultimately, we are here for our students. Please let me know if you have any questions or want to talk about this further.

Thank you for your dedication to our students and community.

Sincerely,

Jackie Trujillo Superintendent

NOTABLES!!!

Wednesday, April 18th is Science AIMS...everyone has put so much effort into Science that I am sure we will do amazing things on this test.  Please make sure your student comes to school well rested and that they are able to have breakfast.

Monday, April 23rd there is NO SCHOOL

  • While we are in the final stretch of the school year, we are still learning some importance concepts.  We will be having the final Benchmark Test at the beginning of May.  Please encourage your student to continue attending school and continue to be engaged.

AZ MERIT REMINDERS

Our class will be participating in AZ Merit Testing this week.  It will begin Monday, (4/2) and there is a test scheduled for everyday this week.  I know that you read this in the letter we sent home before break, but I just want to remind everyone how important the following is:

  • Get plenty of rest (even if they need to go to bed a few minutes early this week)
  • Have a healthy breakfast since we will be working hard and lunchtime may be slightly adjusted
  • Be on time to school (testing begins early)
  • Please do not schedule appointments during the school day this week (students need to be present the entire time)
  • Offer some extra encouraging words to your student

The 4th graders will also be taking the Science AIMS. Only the 4th and 8 graders get to take this test. Since the state now requires this to be taken on the computer, there will only be one class testing each day.  There was a random draw to determine what dates/order the classes would test in.  Our class is scheduled to take the Science AIMS on Wednesday, April 18th.

I am excited to see how amazing our class is going to do on this testing!  They all have so much potential and I feel like they are well prepared!
